Feed the World

In our day to day scrolls through our favorited social media sites we get to see all sorts of things. Sometimes it gets old wading through all the pictures of people's cats, dogs and motivational sayings. But then there are those posts and articles that are worth your time. That's where I first learned about FreeRice.com. FreeRice is a fantastic website that is helping our world. Created and owned by the United Nations World Food Programme, Freerice.com gives users the chance to donate rice to hungry people for free. All you have to do is answer questions about english, math, and science. With every correct answer you give, they donate 10 grains of rice. Supported by the on-screen ads from their sponsors, Freerice has fed 66,000 school children in Uganda for a week, over 108,000 Bhutanese refugees for three days, 750,000 cyclone affected people in Myanmar for three days, and many more. They’ve done all that from users answering questions. Simple, right?

Their goal is twofold, to help end world hunger and to provide free education to the public. Not only do you get smarter but you can feel good knowing that you’ve made a real difference in someone’s life.

The trivia questions are strangely addicting. As you answer more and more questions, the game gets harder. The longer you play, the more challenging it becomes. You don’t have to play just one game either. You can choose to answer questions in different categories. One time you might want to learn about famous paintings and then switch over to human anatomy. They have questions about humanities, english, math, chemistry, secondary language learning, geography, and science. They even provide a category for students studying for the SATs. You can also see a leaderboard of players. This adds a competitive element that can make it even more fun. I’ve spent tons of time answering questions, but it’s one of the only websites where I don’t feel bad about playing a game.

FreeRice is doing something wonderful but they need our help to continue. So click the site and answer some questions. Go do some good.
