Wrapping Paper Gift Bags
I have a love/hate relationship with gift bags. On one hand, they are super convenient and they can make a simple gift look elegant. On the other hand, they are too expensive and I don’t know about you, but I can't seem to throw them away. It seems so wasteful. I end up keeping every single one I receive and trying to get multiple uses out of them. I’ve noticed that my bags have to be pretty torn up before I let them go. I still use them occasionally during the year but I don’t buy gift bags at Christmas time. Instead, I make my own gift bags out of wrapping paper. It’s easy to do and you can get creative with ribbons, yarn, bows and gift tags.
I hope this helps some of you this season. I know it’s gotten me out of a last minute race to the store when we’ve been on our way to a party. Is this something you will incorporate for the holiday season? Let me know what you think! Also, don’t forget to follow @theunitysociety and @jenarandolph on Instagram.
Roll out some wrapping paper and place the present that you want to wrap on top of it. Make sure you use enough wrapping paper to cover the item. Cut the paper. It took me a few tries to get the hang of making the right size. I also like to use a heavy paper. It seems to hold up a bit more and doesn’t tend to rip. The heavier paper seems lux if you are going for a more glam look.
Place the paper face down on your table. Fold the right and left sides in until they meet in the middle and overlap a couple of inches. Tape the seam in a few areas to make sure it’s secure.
Fold the bottom of the wrapping paper up to create the bottom of the bag.
Separate the two pieces of wrapping paper and flatten out the corners to create a diamond shape.
Fold the top and bottom corners in toward the middle of the diamond. Tape in place.
Put your gift inside.
Fold the top of the bag over to the back side. Use a hole punch to make holes for ribbon/yarn.
Tie the ribbon and put a gift tag on it. It’s all done!
